CAS evolves its examination system with the TrueAbility platform to deliver online, Excel-based exams to improve user experience, remove logistical barriers, and streamline distribution and grading processes

Recognizing the need for advancing its pen and paper testing method to keep a competitive edge, measure modern skills, and drive certification value, CAS turned to TrueAbility to enhance exam efficiency and remove logistical barriers. The performance-based assessment (PBA) platform allows actuaries to prove their skill in a real-world environment by leveraging the software and tools common to their work. In addition, CAS utilizes the platform flexibility of combining automated and manual grading capabilities.

“After an intensive search, TrueAbility was the only vendor who not only met our performance-based exam requirements, but could also address our coordination and scheduling challenges that had proved to be time and capital intensive,” said Director of Admissions, Ashley Zamperini, CAS. “Our certification exams are highly-valued worldwide, and it is critical for us to administer a program that accurately represents the work environment of today’s actuary.”

The transformation of the certification program via the TrueAbility platform will give actuaries the experience of on-the-job assignments, making CAS exams more relevant to real-life actuarial practice. TBE users will take tests through licensed Excel-based exams on their own computers, at a location and time of their choosing, overseen by remote proctors.

From incorporating higher-fidelity testing methods to the elimination of costly logistics and improved user experience, CAS has not only reduced the organizational burden of its previous testing model, but it has demonstrated scalability to sustain the program for years to come.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be working with CAS to modernize their certification program that has the potential to establish a pioneering assessment standard in the financial and insurance industries,” said Frederick Mendler, CEO, TrueAbility. “We remain committed to helping enterprise companies across the globe change how they administer certification exams for a computer-working world, and will continue to focus on making performance-based assessments the status-quo for skill and knowledge demonstration.”
